Let's see what I'm made of. - US Marine Corps

About Let's see what I'm made of.

I'm a graduating senior, officially done with school and getting my diploma next week. I had college lined up and everything, but decided it just wasnt my thing. I want to get my hands dirty, so I've turned to the Marines. I'm hoping they're true to their word and tear me apart so I can build myself up again.

I've already talked to the Recruiters, going in for Infantry, just gotta do the paperwork and figure out how long I need to do the Delayed Entry Program (need to work on my mile time).

Anyways, I'm just looking for advice or even just comments. I'm all about getting stronger, so here's hoping the Marines don't dissappoint and hand me my ass on a silver platter. I expect nothing less.

I think you are doing the right thing but, please, if you have a girlfriend, talk it over with her. Help her understand that there are going to be LOOOONG spans of time where you won't be able to speak to her or see her. My fiance joined without even discussing it with me. He did tell me that I was welcome to leave and he would understand. I decided to stay in the relationship and while I am VERY proud of him, I still hurt because I miss him so much. Let's put it this way, he left for boot on 10/10/05 and since then I have seen him a total of 23 days, 21 were while he was on leave/RA after boot, the other 2 were last weekend when I flew to Camp Lejuene for his first off-base liberty at SOI.
Good luck in your decision!

I'm a pretty solitary kinda guy. Girlfriends aren't really my thing. So it should never be a problem.

Yeah, belive me... My BF left for basic and came back a whole new man! A completely new man who is extremely tougher and smarter and about 70 pounds lighter (all muscle!)
It's the right place, it's the best place and I think that you are a hell of a guy to consider it! Good luck to you and "GO INFANTRY!"
